EPC Projects: We were there as Engineers before getting here as Lawyers
Oceaness is a business consultancy specialising in the establishment and delivery of construction contracts. It began life in 1990 as an engineering services business serving the offshore industries of the North Sea. Since then its internal skills evolved through contract management and then the law as it affects a projects’ delivery. It now provides a strong bridge between Legal & Technical experiences and skillsets, as well as drawing upon contributions from across many varied industries.
A Strategy for Contracts & Legal Agreements: promises & obligations.
We operate as a part of your team or to support it, delivering specialist advice and guidance. We’re there to help you shape a strategy, to structure, to create, and to make your contracts work, all based on the mantra of Safe Delivery, On-Time, On-Budget, in a concerted effort to avoid unnecessary costly disputes.
Such insight stems from many hands-on successfully delivered engineering projects, where such success embraces safety, schedule, economic profit and adapting to project needs or changing requirements, as well as dealing with the unconscionable tactics and dubious ethics of some players.
A Whole Delivery Strategy, not just a Procurement Process
It simply isn’t possible to fully define a project at the outset; there will always be changes sought or necessary. Binding all sides into a rigid contract – whether of fixed requirements or total flexibility without some form of cost effect – is neither realistic nor sensible. Trying to do so will always end in acrimony.
We are pragmatists. Each side has its needs, so we can mediate between them to help you structure an agreement that will carry-through into a workable project and that can deliver as much as possible on what all sides expect.
We not only prepare agreements but draw on many years’ experience in the day-to-day managerial operation of contracts. Such insight is used to lay the groundwork properly, to make agreements that serve the project delivery needs, and we go out of our way to limit the embellishments of most lawyers.
Standard Frameworks: adapted to the circumstances
We are familiar with most forms of standard contract (such as NEC, FIDIC, LOGIC or BIMCO) and their variants, along with various bespoke varieties of contract used by many major firms.
We go beyond the limited capability and narrow vision of the purist lawyers. We provide detailed support in a way you may not be used to because as we say above, we’ve been there as engineers before getting here as lawyers.
With many years’ experience in engineering project management, Oceaness is able to offer unrivalled guidance to bridge the technical challenges to the commercial needs and contracted agreements. This may be in the strategy to frame the procurement of services, or the manner and approach to detailed management of the contracts as they progress (or both), but will always aim for safe delivery, on-time and on-budget.
